What is a facelift?

One of the best ways to rejuvenate and restore a more youthful appearance is through a facelift, which is also one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available. A minimally invasive facelift involves addressing lax facial skin and fat in the lower portions of the face for a tighter and smoother overall look. The talented surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Oklahoma City, OK use the SmartLift facelift technique to address aging skin for a more youthful appearance and often incorporate additional rejuvenating procedures, such as a forehead lift, neck lift, or brow lift, to further complement the results. With the best possible outcome, some patients can look as much as ten years younger following surgery. If you are interested in learning more about minimally invasive facelifts, schedule a visit with Dr. Erik Nuveen or Dr. Courtney Caplin at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates.

What is a Smartlift?

Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates's use of the SmartLift facelift technique means no use of general anesthesia, which allows for a faster recovery. Many patients and colleagues refer to the technique as a lunchtime lift or a one-stage total facelift as it provides highly customized results with minimal recovery. Typically performed on the lower two-thirds of the face, SmartLift often includes the neck, chin, and cheeks, improving the entire lower face and jawline. To further customize the procedure, we may recommend other treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, for total skin rejuvenation. During your thorough consultation at our facility, our surgical team can identify if you are an ideal candidate for a SmartLift facelift.

What Are the Benefits of a Facelift?

A facelift is a fast and effective way to take several years off of the appearance of your face. By removing excess skin from the face, we can tighten the skin, eliminating sagging skin and wrinkles in the process. These results are designed to look not only stunning but completely natural as well. If you're feeling a bit self-conscious about your face showing your age more than you'd like, a facelift could be very beneficial.

Am I A candidate for a facelift?

Many individuals who desire a facelift are frustrated by the visible loss of skin elasticity in the mid or lower sections of the face. A facelift can target various aspects, depending on your unique goals. Patients should understand that age won't always define the most effective time to have a facelift. There are many unique aspects, in addition to numerous lift methods, to inform the choice. The facelift performed will vary for candidates between 30 and 40 years old vs. those in their 60s and 70s. Skin elasticity is one of the key components in the decision-making process. Further, facelift patients should be in good physical health, refrain from smoking, and maintain reasonable result expectations.

How does a facelift work?

The technique used during each facelift is dependent on the patient’s unique facial features and personal aesthetic goals. Our surgeons use a minimally invasive technique customized to address your specific concerns. We utilize IV sedation versus general anesthesia so that our patients can return to their lives faster. Before beginning your procedure, one of our skilled surgeons will create a detailed treatment plan, which could include a SmartLift facelift, a forehead or brow lift, laser skin resurfacing, injectables, or a combination of these. Our team will ensure you understand the details of your surgery beforehand so we can help you to set reasonable expectations for the outcome.

What can i expect During/After Facelift Surgery?

All facelift procedures are performed in an accredited surgical facility with IV sedation. Many patients are able to return home to rest within a short period of time. However, this is dependent on the number and type of procedures completed during your surgery. If your procedure includes additional facial surgeries, you may need to remain at our surgical facility for a few hours of monitoring before returning home to rest. It is normal to experience bruising and swelling after facial surgery, and you may feel as if your face is being pulled tight. This subsides within a couple of weeks. Optimal results will be evident after several months. You may also need to attend follow-up appointments at our facility to have your recovery progress monitored.

What are the Expected Costs for A facelift?

Depending on the technique used and the invasiveness of the surgery, the cost of your surgery could vary. Less invasive facelifts can average $7,085. For patients whose surgical goals also include treatment of the neck area, the price starts at $9,125.

Facelift FAQs

Will I have Facial scars?

As is the case with most surgeries, there is a risk of scarring. The extent of your scarring will depend on the types of procedures included in your treatment plan. If your facelift includes a brow lift, forehead lift, or neck lift, you may experience scarring. However, our skilled surgeons strategically place incisions in discreet areas that are not easily noticeable once they have healed. To help your incisions heal properly, our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, which should be followed closely.

Who is an ideal candidate for a facelift?

Most patients in good health who are experiencing the signs and symptoms of aging are good candidates for a minimally invasive facelift. Certain habits and lifestyle choices can impact the elasticity of your skin, leading to early aging. But generally speaking, patients ages 40 – 70 are ideal candidates for facial surgeries. During a consultation at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Oklahoma City, one of our skilled surgeons will help you decide how best to achieve your aesthetic goals. If we feel you are not a candidate for a facelift, we can create a customized treatment plan that includes noninvasive procedures, such as injectables and laser skin resurfacing.

What are the risks of a facelift?

The risks and complications associated with a minimally invasive facelift (when performed by Dr. Nuveen and Dr. Caplin) are rare. However, it is a surgical procedure and unexpected instances can occur. Some of the potential complications associated with a facelift include bleeding, scarring, infection, nerve injury, and poor healing. Dr. Nuveen and Dr. Caplin will discuss these risks with you at your consultation.

Can insurance cover a facelift?

A facelift is a cosmetic procedure and will not be covered by insurance. During your consultation, a member of our team will provide you with a cost breakdown for your surgery and explain the payment methods we accept. In some cases, we may help you apply for medical financing to better afford your procedure.

Are the Results of a facelift Permanent?

The results of your facelift will be long-lasting. However, the surgery does not halt the natural aging process so your skin will continue to age over time. To protect your results, our team may recommend a self-care routine or annual visits for injectables, such as BOTOX® and Juvéderm®.
