When a physician is board-certified, they have gone beyond the minimum requirements for their chosen specialty. The title of board certification requires completion of a surgical residency of 5 to 8 years. After receiving a recommendation to sit for the examination, they must pass a written and verbal examination within their chosen field. Each certification requires passing a rigorous exam to demonstrate medical knowledge, clinical knowledge, and diagnostic skills. Every one of our triple board-certified doctors has completed this process three separate times to receive each of their surgical certifications.
Our Story
Bringing Heart to Cosmetic Surgery
We give our patients the freedom to feel like themselves, inside and out.
At Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates, we specialize in personalized cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and medically proven approaches to non-surgical aesthetics, including injectables. Our extensive selection of treatment options and comprehensive approach go beyond traditional medical spa services. We recognize that your motives for coming to our office may be rooted in negative emotions, so we’re committed to addressing your specific concerns—improving your confidence and quality of life. Here, you’ll always leave feeling better than before.
Our History
In 2003, Dr. Erik Nuveen purchased our practice from a retiring surgeon and created Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates. Dr. Nuveen’s skills and fellowship training in cosmetic surgery—including the face and body—allowed him to develop CSA into an advanced cosmetic surgery practice. He then began sub-specialized care options with the invitation of Dr. Caplin, Dr. Meyer, and Dr. Sistare into the practice.
Dr Caplin joined our team in 2016, bringing with her a unique expertise in transgender surgical techniques and her passion for complex facial reconstruction surgeries. As a woman and mother, she relates to many of her patients and has the special ability to meet their needs, especially with face, breast, and body procedures.
She and Dr. Nuveen are now the only two married cosmetic surgeons in the country who work as partners in the same practice—opting for a team approach to complex multiple-procedure cases.
We opened the doors to our Jacksonville location in May of 2023, quickly gaining recognition and winning 2 Folio Best of Jax awards—one for Dr. Caplin as “Best Cosmetic Surgeon” and another for “Best Weight Loss Clinic.”
Our friendly team of surgeons, nurses, medical aestheticians, and administrative support staff treat patients with the highest standards of care, safety, and medical training at both locations.
Our Mission
With a team of triple board-certified cosmetic surgeons, highly trained nurses, and friendly support staff, Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates is passionate about transforming lives. One body at a time, we empower communities through a safe, educational, and compassionate approach to cosmetic surgery and medicine.

The CSA Patient Experience
Consultation Process
At every consultation, our providers take the time to truly get to know you before creating your treatment plan. Once we’ve discussed your medical history, concerns, and cosmetic goals, we’ll discuss which surgical and non-surgical procedures suit your unique needs—going beyond simply listing what you’re a candidate for. We’re not interested in squeezing your concerns into a box but rather formulating a unique combination of science-backed solutions to get you to wherever you want to be.
Procedure Process
Before scheduling your procedure, we’ll review any steps needed to ensure you’re fully prepared on the day of your treatment. If you have chosen a surgical procedure, your surgical team will discuss the details of exactly what to expect before, during, and after your procedure beforehand. When you arrive for your treatment, your doctor or nurse practitioner will perform your chosen cosmetic enhancement or reconstructive surgery with skill, care, and precision.
Recovery and Aftercare Process
After your procedure, our care team provides detailed instructions to simplify the aftercare process. We’ll review these directions, which may include specific medical-grade product recommendations, and schedule your follow-ups as needed to ensure a smooth recovery. We understand that getting back to the things you love as soon as possible is important, so expediting your safe recovery is always a priority.

FAQs
While CSA follows the strictest standards for operating room procedures and surgical safety protocols, cosmetic surgery is still surgery, so a certain level of risk is associated with each procedure. Remember to keep a few things in mind:
- Never get a surgical procedure done at a medical spa. Instead, check to make sure you are getting your surgery at an AAAHC, TJC, or AAAASF-accredited ambulatory surgical facility. For example, our state-of-the-art facilities are accredited by the AAAHC.
- Do your research. Make sure your surgeon is board-certified and follow preoperative and postoperative instructions closely.
- Finally, don’t hesitate to ask all of your questions during appointments. Feeling comfortable and confident throughout the process is key!
Which CSA specialist you see depends on which location you go to and what procedure you’re interested in.
Our surgical specialists in Oklahoma are skilled in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, breast, and body. Some specialize in liposuction, vaginal reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, male chest reductions, and rhinoplasty.
In Jacksonville, our surgeons are skilled in facial, breast, and abdomen procedures—equipped with specialized training and experience in transgender care and gender reaffirmation surgeries, as well as craniofacial surgery.
At both locations, our nurse practitioners and doctors are skilled in non-invasive procedures and wellness therapies, including aesthetic injectables, laser treatments, medical weight loss, and hormone replacement.
