About the One-Stage Body Lift

A one-stage body lift, often called a torsoplasty, is a body contouring procedure that combines many techniques to remove excess skin and fat, lifting and reshaping the mid-lower areas of the body that have been altered by age, massive weight loss, and pregnancy. One-stage body lift surgery focuses on the mid and the lower body, including the buttocks, stomach, flanks, low back, and thighs. According to the desired amount of skin removal, a circumferential 360 incision may be performed, which permits the highest amount of skin excision and lift. A lower body lift is a major procedure that can redefine a patient’s lower half of the body. Our highly talented surgeons, Drs. Erik Nuveen and Courtney Caplin, have experience with skin removal surgeries. For many patients, this surgery at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Oklahoma City, OK allows men and women to not only achieve their weight loss goals but to complete their total transformation with a firmer figure that looks healthy and beautiful.

Surgical Technique

A lower body lift is sometimes called a belt lipectomy as the incision is made around the belt area surrounding the lower torso. The incision is extended to the buttocks and thighs. Loose, saggy skin will be trimmed away and the remaining skin will be lifted and secured by sutures. Liposuction may be used if there’s excess fat. There are also cases when the fat harvested from liposuction is reinstated into the buttocks for an instant butt lift. These procedures may be combined in one session or they may be staged, depending on the patient’s circumstance.

During/After the Procedure

The lower body lift procedure is performed with general anesthesia and requires an overnight stay in a hospital or accredited surgical facility. Due to its nature, spinal anesthesia may also be administered. The surgery lasts from 5 – 8 hours, depending on the number of procedures performed. Patients who have a lower body lift will experience a slow recovery process. Aside from extensive incisions, the body and skin need adequate time to adjust to their new positions created by the surgery. Most patients will need 2 – 3 weeks before returning to a light routine. It can take up to a full year for the final results of this surgery to appear.

Lower Body Lift FAQs

How much does a lower body lift cost?
The cost of a one-stage body lift procedure will vary for each patient. During your consultation, one of our surgeons will create a highly customized treatment plan that includes all of the procedures needed to help you reach your goals. Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates accepts several payment methods, including low-interest medical financing to make your surgical lift as easy to afford as possible.

Will I have visible scarring?
A few factors will determine the visibility of scarring you have after a one-stage body lift. Our surgeons plan incision points so they can be easily concealed by undergarments or in less visible areas, like the natural skin folds. Our team will provide you with aftercare instructions, including how to help your incisions heal correctly so the scars are smooth and eventually blend with your normal skin.

What can I expect during recovery?
Following a one-stage body lift procedure, you might have moderate bruising and inflammation around the treatment areas. Appointments for follow-up exams will be necessary so we can monitor your process. It is crucial that you contact our facility if you see any signs of infection or you have any concerns.

When should I consider getting a one-stage body lift?
If you're considering a one-stage body lift, schedule a consultation at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates to learn more about the process and the right time for you to get one. You need to be at or close to a healthy, stable weight since losing or gaining a lot of weight once you've had a lift can alter your results. Prior to surgery, one of our surgeons will also complete a physical examination to ensure that you're strong enough to recover properly.

Will I have to stay overnight in the hospital?
Most often, we recommend patients spend a minimum of one night in a medical facility following a body lift surgery of this magnitude. This inpatient stay is to ensure your comfort and safety so your health can be monitored and your pain and be controlled. Based on how many areas are being treated and your recovery speed, we may recommend you stay multiple nights. During your consultation, a member of our team will discuss where and how long we think you may need to stay.
