Part of a class of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, Juvéderm is commonly used to treat the lines from the nose to the corner of mouth, known as nasolabial folds or smile lines. This injectable is administered by Dr. Erik Nuveen and Dr. Courtney Caplin, the cosmetic surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Oklahoma City, to correct moderate to severe lines and folds. Derived from hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body, the acid holds water in place at the injection site, which aids in providing temporary volume. An added benefit of Juvéderm is that patients can experience maximum results from only one treatment.

"Went for a consultation with my friend who is getting a lift and implant with dr. Nuveen and her lips done with Jessica. Jessica was so friendly and informative that I booked my appointment THAT day to have my lips done the next week! She showed us pics, showed us on our own face what the injections would do for my lips! And I am 3 days out from my procedure and I absolutely love them!!! I had NO lips before Jessica got ahold of me, and now I can wear lipstick and make the duck face without hesitation!! The procedure was quick and for the most part painless. She was clean and made sure I knew what she was doing the entire time. I will definitely be back as soon as possible to continue filling out my lips with her!!! 5 stars for the entire building and staff!!!"- K.N. / Google / Feb 01, 2016

"Dr. Courtney Caplin is the best. My experience with her is one I treasure. I have been getting Botox for years, but her approach was perfect. I feel more confident about my looks after visiting Dr. Caplin. I've never been a fan of fillers, but I am in love with my cheekbones and lips. Plus, I feel like it looks natural. No duck face here. She is about quality, not quantity. I can't recommend her enough."- C.F. / Google / Jul 28, 2016
"Second go round with this group. A very professional Jessica guided me through the process of plumping up my lips and eliminating my frown lines. We are now working on a facial peel. I'm looking forward to a long relationship."- A.M. / Google / Feb 12, 2016
What to Expect
Juvéderm is a gel substance that is administered via a fine needle directly into the skin. There is no sedation needed, although a numbing cream is usually applied first to help with any discomfort. The injection sites will be sterilized and marked with ink. Once the filler is injected, results are immediately noticeable. The practitioner may massage the treated area so the filler spreads evenly. Other than temporary redness, the treatment has no after effect that will prevent a patient from going back to normal routine. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise for approximately 24 hours. After a Juvéderm injection, the face will look refreshed, softer and smoother.
One full syringe of Juvéderm may cost between $675 to $800. The final cost of treatment will depend on how many syringes of the product were used. Some sessions may take 2-3+ syringes. During the consultation, this can be discussed in detail according to the practitioner’s assessments. Another factor to consider in pricing is that this treatment must be repeated after a year as Juvéderm will be naturally reabsorbed by the body over time.

This procedure is almost pain-free. This really is determined on a patient’s overall pain tolerance. The product is administered with a fine injection needle and a numbing cream is usually applied first to help with any discomfort. After the treatment, tingling sensations may occur, and there could be some swelling and bruising. These after effects are temporary and usually subside within a few hours.
Dermal fillers have an outstanding track record for successfully reducing signs of aging with less risk than surgical cosmetic treatments. Other nonsurgical options include wrinkle relaxers, such as BOTOX and Dysport. Severe cosmetic issues such as loose and sagging skin may be better resolved by a surgical facelift. The approach taken will be based on the patient’s cosmetic condition and aesthetic goals.
Back to 20?
It is important to set realistic expectations when undergoing any cosmetic enhancement procedure. While the treatment does take years off the face, it can only do so much for patients who have severe wrinkles and skin irregularities. Juv´derm will help to decrease fine wrinkles and creases, and the skin will appear smoother and softer.
