"I was originally a patient here nearly 10 years ago and have sent many friends here over the years. This year I came in for another surgery and had some personal difficulties that resulted in some additional care, but this team of nurses and physicians has been so understanding and caring through all of it. Dr. Nuveen and his team have gone above and beyond for me this year and I appreciate them so much. Every person from the front desk to the schedulers has been phenomenal to me. As a surgery nurse myself, I have very high standards for facilities and the care they give and they have exceeded them all. I would absolutely recommend them if you are looking for a skilled and talented group that will care about your entire self!"- J.R. / Google / Sep 21, 2023

WPATH, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, is a nonprofit (501c3) organization that focuses on the professional, educational, and interdisciplinary aspects of transgender health. The mission of the organization is to educate the public through evidence-based research on the importance of advocating for and respecting the needs of transgender, transsexual, and gender-nonconforming individuals around the world.
The organization has published a "Standards of Care and Ethical Guidelines," which describes how to properly manage the psychological, medical, and surgical needs of those with gender dysphoria so that professionals, like Dr. Nuveen and Dr. Caplin, can effectively offer assistance to those in the process of transitioning. Frequently Asked Questions
How old must I be to have surgery?
WPATH's standard of care notes that some surgeries can be performed on patients at the age of 16 and older while other surgeries must wait until a patient is at least 18 years old. In certain situations, surgeries may be performed at a younger age once a patient has completed their counseling and is deemed healthy and ready to begin their physical transition.
Do all transitioning individuals undergo surgery?
The decision to undergo surgery is entirely personal. Many transgender individuals choose to have surgery while others may decide against it. We feel that the most important aspect of your transition is the support of those closest to you. Should you choose to move forward with gender reaffirming surgery, Dr. Nuveen and Dr. Caplin will follow the WPATH standard of care to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Will I need to provide documentation before surgery?
Before your surgery can be scheduled, Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates will request documentation confirming a gender dysphoria diagnosis and proof of counseling. This is a standard of care outlined in the WPATH guidelines, which we closely follow in order to make sure your transition is seamless.
How do I know which surgeries I need?
When you are ready to consider surgery, contact our Oklahoma City, OK facility to schedule a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Nuveen or Dr. Caplin. During this visit, we will discuss your ultimate aesthetic goals and how best to achieve them. Our surgeons' expertise in gender reaffirmation allows them insight to create a treatment plan that will help you complete your physical transformation.
