Even though a septoplasty in Oklahoma City is used to correct breathing problems, a loss of cartilage or bone and cartilage grafting can change the appearance of the nose. Highly skilled surgeons with experience in septoplasty know the technique needed to make natural and subtle changes.
What is Septoplasty?
The septum is a critical structure within the nose made of tissue and bone to separate the two nasal passages and to support airflow. Many men, women, and children experience breathing issues when the bone and cartilage aren’t straight.
At Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates, our expert surgeons can perform a Septoplasty in Oklahoma City to correct a deviated septum and improve your breathing.

Consultation
Before beginning treatment, we kick off your time at CSA with an initial consultation. One of our surgeons talks with you about what cosmetic concerns you would like to address and provides multiple options on how to accomplish your goals. You’ll work together to create a custom surgical plan to correct your septum and improve your breathing.
Preparation
Since we provide both IV sedation and general anesthetic for a septoplasty in Oklahoma City, your surgeon will talk about both options and help you make a decision on which you would like for your procedure. They’ll talk with you about your specific procedure plan, and then give you pre-care and post-care instructions.
Procedure
During septoplasty surgery, your surgeon reshapes the deviated septum structure through an incision made inside the nose. The surgeon will lift and separate the septum tissue to fully access the misaligned bone and cartilage. The surgeon will close the incision with sutures and place a splint inside the nose to align the septum as it heals.
Recovery
After surgery, your surgeon will go over your post-care instructions again before sending you home to rest and heal. You should expect bruising and swelling under the eyes and around the nose immediately after the procedure. While recovery takes between 7 to 10 days, you will not see the full results until about 3 months after your surgery.

Septoplasty FAQs
The most common cause of a deviated septum is birth trauma because most individuals are born with a deviated septum. However, trauma to the nose later in life can also cause the formation of a deviated septum.
Even though most ENT specialists are able to perform septoplasty, they do not have the skills to preserve the look and shape of the nose like cosmetic surgeons do. Patients should find a cosmetic surgeon who can simultaneously perform both a rhinoplasty and septoplasty in Oklahoma City.
