FAQ: What is the difference in cosmetic and plastic surgery?

Featured Image

In some instances, there is no difference. One element of surgery is cosmetic surgery. Another example of surgery would be general surgery, Ear Nose and Throat surgery, oculoplastic surgery, burn surgery, dental implant surgery, etc., etc., etc. As a guess, I would venture to say there are more than 100 areas of surgery alone that maintain separate distinction and focus. Most would agree that the difference in cosmetic surgery from plastic surgery is that cosmetic surgery is for the modifications of appearance toward some ideal or normal. Plastic surgery may encompass reconstructive aspects of surgery such as skin and muscle reconstruction for injuries, cancer or malformations associated with development. There are, however, excellent surgeons in both expertise’s. Some plastic surgeons have migrated to practicing exclusively cosmetic surgery. Some cosmetic surgeons do some aspects of reconstructive surgery as part of their practices as well.
