Conditions Treated

After Weight Loss Surgery FAQs

Common Areas Treated?

Typical body parts that are addressed for surgery are the abdomen, buttocks, upper thighs, breasts, arms and neck. The most common areas for improvement include the breasts and abdominal area, which can usually be done at the same time. During the course of losing weight, the areas of loose skin will become more obvious and it is usually around this time that patients begin consulting with a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon. You must realize that this is a HIGHLY specialized area of cosmetic surgery and should only be performed by experts.

Ideal Timing?

Ideal body weight prior to surgery depends upon stability and health. Patients are all recommended to have a BMI (Body Mass Index) below 30 prior to surgery, but some are not stable at this level. Therefore, we often accept patients with no other associated medical conditions up to a BMI of up to 40. It is common that during the surgical procedures we perform, patients will lose 15-35 pounds from removal of excess skin and fat.  Often, after surgical removal of excess skin, patients accelerate in their weight loss due to joy and increased mobility. This is the case when loose skin gets in the way of the patient’s daily physical activities.

Will Insurance Cover the Cost?
