When facial volume is lost for any number of reasons, the face can take on a sunken, aged look, which can be corrected with the dermal filler, Sculptra. This poly-L-lactic acid-based filler is offered at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Oklahoma City to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen aids in skin elasticity and firmness, which helps to build up the lost volume. Cosmetic surgeons Dr. Erik Nuveen and Dr. Courtney Caplin can inject Sculptra into the jaw line, smile lines around the mouth, nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth and cheeks. Sculptra can last more than a year in most patients.
"Would give more stars if I could! Amazing group of people working here and very considerate, helpful, encouraging, and overall I had a even better experience than I could have ever expected. I'm very grateful for their opinions, timeliness, care, and most importantly my surgery outcome! Could not recommend a better plastic surgeon and staff!"- Anonymous / UCompareHealthcare / Nov 20, 2016
"Enjoy the awesome vibe from staff. They made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Highly recommend this place to family and friends!"- M.G. / Google / Jun 22, 2020
"This week I went to Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates for a consultation for breast augmentation and a full body lift. I had been researching places to go and this was the one I kept going back to after lots of reviews, both online and word of mouth, were very positive! I walked in and was immediately greeted by the receptionist who was very polite and attentive. The waiting area was gorgeous and comforting. I was taken back to the consult area by Jayme where we had a great conversation about what I had in mind, she was very open and honest with her answers to my questions and made me feel extremely comfortable. Sonia came in next to measure and take photos, I have had 4 kids and modesty isn’t usually an issue, but my poor boobs...She was so sweet, explaining everything she was doing and why. Again, I felt so comfortable. I rocked that photoshoot! Dr. Nuveen stopped in next and explained some more things about the procedures I was wanting and gave some advice on what he felt would be best, I loved that. There’s that comfortable thing again, I felt it. next up, Dr. Caplin! It’s like a literal ray of sunshine came in. She is the kindest person I think I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She knew exactly what I wanted and assured me it would all be great! She told me a few fun facts about the facility and told me about her pups Max & Ruby who come to the office. How can I not choose this place for my procedures? My deposit for the surgery date was paid today and in a little more than a month I’ll be doing the very first thing for me and I am more than pleased with my decision to use Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates. I am so excited! Thank you so much to Jayme who has answered all of my silly questions at all hours."- M.P. / Yelp / Jun 16, 2020
"Love my results. Dr Nuveen is a miracle worker"- P. / Healthgrades / Jun 11, 2020
"Dr. NUVEEN did a fantastic job taking out HUGE breast implants (done by another doctor), lift and put in smaller implants. I couldn’t be happier with the results. He and his staff were sweet and professional. He listened to my needs and produced great results. I wouldn’t ever go anywhere else."- K. / Healthgrades / May 15, 2020
During a Sculptra treatment session, the injection sites are marked, and the filler is injected directly into the problematic areas. The product is delivered through a fine needle, and multiple layers are injected gradually until the desired contour has been achieved. The treatment is pain-free; although a numbing cream is usually applied first to reduce any discomfort from the needle. A Sculptra treatment session lasts around 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated and the extent of the cosmetic issues. On average, 2 to 3 injections spaced a few weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
Sculptra Expected Cost
A Sculptra session averages around $700. This price reflects one syringe of the product. During a treatment session, the number of syringes used will be determined based on the skin’s condition and how many areas are being treated. It is common for some patients to require 1-3 syringes during a treatment session.
What to Expect with Sculptra
Sculptra is a nonsurgical treatment and does not require any downtime for patients. After treatment, patients will be slightly red and swollen where the injections occurred, but this goes away within a few hours. Patients can resume their normal routine right after treatment, but should refrain from any strenuous activities for the first 24 hours. It is advised to not apply any pressure to the face, and to sleep upright the first evening following treatment. The results are evident immediately after treatment, but it could take several weeks for the optimal results to become visible.

Sculptra is synthetic based and approved by the FDA. It has been tested extensively and has been proven to be safe and effective for cosmetic use. It utilizes processed poly-L-lactic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in humans, so rejection to the product is rare. Temporary side effects include mild swelling and bruising, and possible pain and redness around the injection sites.
There are a number of injectable derma fillers available on the market today. Each has a specific benefit to resolve facial wrinkles. There are also muscle relaxers, such as BOTOX, that patients can consider. While the results may appear similar, the difference lies on the approach each treatment takes to produce a smooth, wrinkle-free result. The doctor will be able to recommend the best approach once the facial condition is evaluated during the initial consultation.
As wrinkles and creases are typical with aging candidates, anyone who needs volume may be a candidate for a Sculptra treatment. Statistics show that the most common age groups who seek this treatment are those between 30 to 55 years old. The younger age group may seek treatment due to premature skin aging caused by personal habits or environmental factors such as extreme sun exposure.
The advantage of Sculptra over other derma fillers is that the results typically last up to 2 years. Naturally derived derma fillers only lasts 6 months up to 1 year. The treatment may be repeated as soon as necessary.
Sculptra is commonly injected into the subdermal layer into the chin, nasolabial folds and marionette lines. It may also be used on the mid-face section for augmentation. It is a common filler that surgeons use to achieve a “liquid facelift.”
